Types of Thermostats

Smart Thermostats
Smart thermostats like the Honeywell Lyric automatically control your home's temperature for your maximum comfort and energy-efficiency. These types are usually WiFi-connected platforms that let you control the temperature through your smartphone or tablet. You'll also receive extreme weather alerts and reminders for when it's time to change your HVAC filters.
WiFi-Thermostats
WiFi enabled thermostats are similar to smart thermostats. They usually come with an app that lets you remotely access the temperature controls over a smartphone, tablet or computer. This is handy if the weather takes a turn for the worst when you're away from home. However, they will not make automatic adjustments like smart thermostats.
Programmable Thermostats
Programmable thermostats are easy-to-use and let you quickly set the temperature for up to 7-days in advance. With different settings for different periods of the day, you can set your temperature preferences to match your schedule and reduce your energy usage.
Non-Programmable Thermostats
Non-programmable thermostats like the Honeywell CT30A have been the industry standard for over 50 years. As they're non-digital, they're incredibly easy to use and you never have to worry about the batteries running out.

Will any thermostat work in my home?
Most thermostats are designed to work with low-voltage electrical systems. Unless your home has an electric baseboard heating system or floor/wall heaters, there's a good chance your home is on a low-voltage system, too.
How often should I replace my thermostat?
Thermostats last for around 10 years until they are affected by wiring and dust accumulation. However, any time you replace your HVAC system, you should also replace your thermostat.
Can I replace my thermostat with any thermostat?
Usually, you can replace your thermostat with most models on the market. However, be sure to look at the packaging as it should say which HVAC systems it's compatible with.
What are the signs of a bad thermostat?
The most common signs of a bad thermostat are when you notice a recent spike in your energy bills, experience temperature fluctuations, or your HVAC system will not turn on or off.
How do I know if my thermostat is accurate?
To check if your thermostat is accurate, tape an accurate thermometer next to it on the wall. Wait 15 minutes and then take a reading. This should be done once a year at the start of fall.
